System Requirements for BuiltWorks

System requirements for particular version of BuiltWorks are propagated by requirements for corresponding version of SolidWorks. Please check the recent system requirements for each particular version of SolidWorks at support pages of SolidWorks web site http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/SystemRequirements.html

The recommended minimum requirements for each version of BuiltWorks are listed in a table below. Systems with higher capacity will provide enhanced performance.


  • SolidWorks 2010 SP1.0 or later SP for BuiltWorks 2010;
  • SolidWorks 2011 SP1.0 or later SP for BuiltWorks 2011;
  • SolidWorks 2012 SP1.0 or later SP for BuiltWorks 2012.

  • Windows XP 32-bit
  • Windows XP 64-bit
  • Windows Vista 32-bit
  • Windows Vista 64-bit
  • Windows 7 32-bit
  • Windows 7 64-bit
    • Note 1: SolidWorks provides support to Windows 7 with release of SolidWorks 2010 version SP1;
    • Note 2: SoliWorks stops supporting Windows XP, with the release of SolidWorks 2013 version;
    • Note 3: User Account Control (UAC) on Windows Vista and Windows 7 may prevent BuiltWorks from normal operation!

  • Minimum: 2GB RAM
    • Note: for handling very large models: 64-bit processor and Operating System with 6GB or more of RAM is recommended when system resources exceed the 2GB limit of a 32-bit OS architecture.

  • A certified OpenGL workstation graphics card and driver.

  • Intel® or AMD® processors

  • Mouse or other pointing device
  • DVD drive
  • Microsoft Excel 2003, 2007 or 2010
  • Internet Explorer version 6.x or higher
  • Adobe Acrobat version 7.0.7 or higher
  • Sufficient free space on the hard disk to hold the program and data files. The disk space requirement may vary depending on the modules you are installing. A typical minimum requirement is 15MB to 30MB free space.
  • A multi-media ready system with sound card and speakers is needed to run of some tutorial movies and slide shows

  • BuiltWorks as well as SolidWorks is tested only with Microsoft's Windows Networking and Active Directory network environments.

  • The user must have a basic familiarity with Microsoft Windows systems in order to use the software.
