Vilnius, LITHUANIA – December 16, 2013 – SolidACE, a company developing computer aided design and engineering tools for the architectural, building and construction engineering, and plant engineering markets, today announced the release of Express version of brand new structural data interoperability tool CIS2Works for SolidWorks CAD environment.

CIS2Works is add-in application for SolidWorks providing import and export capabilities of AEC and Plant industry accepted structural steel data exchange formats, namely – CIS/2, the CIMSteel Integration Standards Rev. 2 format, adopted by AISC as a standard for structural steel interoperability, and SDNF, the Steel Detailing Neutral Format, maintained still in a variety of plant and structural design systems for importing and exporting of steel structures. CIS2Works full version will also support ISM, the Integrated Structural Modeling technology, provided by Bentley Systems Inc., and other useful steel industry formats and standards.

The CIS2WorksXpress edition is distributed free of charge and works within SolidWorks CAD environment without activation or registration. Supported SolidWorks versions are 2013 and 2014.

“One of formats, supported by our new application CIS2Works, is CIMSteel Integration Standards (CIS/2), which is adopted by American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) to facilitate data exchange through seemingly stand-alone programs, such as structural analysis, CAD and detailing systems by allowing them to communicate with each other,” said Dr. Arūnas Urbšys, CEO of SolidACE. “According to AISC, CIS/2 reduces redundant work associated with steel design; by eliminating rework, the chance of errors is greatly reduced and the design process becomes more efficient.”

Key features of CIS2Works are:

  1. Import and export of CIS/2 and SDNF industry standard data exchange formats;
  2. Direct and full support of SolidWorks native Weldment feature, incl. structural plates;
  3. Separate model preview window, facilitating very fast loading and preview of large models;
  4. Grouping of members and plates identifying reusable components for lighter model creation;
  5. Flexible mapping of imported member section profile names with Weldment library names;

The new CIS2WorksXpress version 1.0 will be available for download through SolidACE web site immediately.
